Tungsten powder is the raw material for preparing tungsten processing materials, tungsten alloys and tungsten products.

Production principle of tungsten powder

About the production principle of tungsten powder, the following tungsten powder recovery experts to introduce to you as follows: using hydrogen reduction of tungsten trioxide or ammonium paratungstate method to prepare. The process of preparing tungsten powder by hydrogen reduction method is generally divided into two stages: the first stage is the reduction of tungsten trioxide at 500-700℃temperature; the second stage is the reduction of tungsten dioxide to tungsten powder at 700-900℃ temperature. Reduction is often carried out in tubular electric furnace or rotary furnace.

The properties of reduced tungsten powder, such as purity, particle size and particle size, depend mainly on the reduction process. When reducing tungsten powder in tubular furnace, the main technological parameters affecting the reduction rate are reduction temperature, loading capacity of tungsten oxide in the boat, moving speed of the boat, hydrogen flow rate and moisture content in the hydrogen gas. With the increase of reduction temperature, the particle size of tungsten powder becomes coarser. In addition to the hydrogen reduction method, the tungsten powder was prepared by the early tungsten oxide carbon reduction method. The reduction temperature was higher than 1050℃. The purity of tungsten powder obtained by this method is relatively low. In addition, the process research of reducing tungsten oxide with metal aluminum, calcium and zinc is also in progress. For tungsten powder with high purity and ultra-fine particle size required for special applications, hydrogen chloride reduction method was developed, and the particle size of tungsten powder can be less than 0.05 micron.

Use of tungsten powder

Tungsten powder is the main raw material for processing powder metallurgy tungsten products and tungsten alloys. Pure tungsten powder can be made into processed materials such as silk, rods, pipes and boards, and certain shape products. Tungsten powder mixed with other metal powder can be made into various tungsten alloys, such as tungsten-molybdenum alloy, tungsten-rhenium alloy, tungsten-copper alloy and high-density tungsten alloy. Another important application of tungsten powder is to make tungsten carbide powder, and then to prepare cemented carbide tools, such as turning tools, milling cutters, drills and molds.
